Shoyeido is a renowned Japanese incense company with a rich history dating back to 1705. Based in Kyoto, the company has been mastering the art of incense-making for over 300 years, passing down traditional techniques through twelve generations of the Hata family (Shoyeido).

The company was founded by Moriyoshi Rokuzaemon Hata, who initially trained and served at the Imperial Palace. This background influenced Shoyeido's dedication to preserving the court's ancient traditions in their incense production. The name "Shoyeido" combines the kanji characters for pine (松), prosperity (栄), and company (堂), symbolizing the company's commitment to high-quality incense.

Shoyeido incense is handcrafted using centuries-old methods and natural ingredients, including agarwood (Jinko) and sandalwood (Byakudan). The process involves blending these fragrant woods with pure water and a natural binding material called tabuko. This meticulous method, which avoids the use of bamboo cores, ensures a pure and refined fragrance.

The company places a strong emphasis on the cultural and spiritual aspects of incense, linking it to the Japanese tradition of Kodo, or "The Way of Incense." This practice, akin to the arts of tea ceremony and flower arranging, involves appreciating the subtle qualities of different incense blends in a meditative and ceremonial context.

Shoyeido's dedication to quality and tradition has made their incense popular not only in Japan but also internationally. They offer a wide range of products, from daily incense to premium and specialty blends, catering to both casual users and connoisseurs alike.
